Come out and Support your Local Bay Of Islands Volunteer Search and Rescue – Boisar Team! Party with us and Nick Hamlyn & The Mayhem!! We will be at McHugh’s Bar on Thursday, April 3rd from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Minimum $5.00 donation at the door. Must be legal drinking age.
Did you know that since 2010, BOISAR has participated in over 30 searches. In that time its volunteers have contributed over 2000 hours in volunteer community services, 5000 hours in training activities, 3500 hours in fundraising activities, and over 3000 hours in search participation. Community support plays a huge part in our ability to provide these services! We hope to see you there!!


2013…Here We Come!!

It’s January 17th and the snow is on the ground.  Our snowshoes have already been in action!  We’re gearing up for a busy year of training, fundraising and doing our very best (as always) to do what we do…SEARCH AND RESCUE!

We started out this year being involved with a mock search for a lost patient from Long Term Care here in Corner Brook on January 8th, 2013.  The exercise was coordinated by Western Health in cooporation with the RNC and BOISAR to test their protocol in the case of a compromised patient finding their way out of the areas of the facility where they live and are being cared for.  Have a look at the coverage from The Western Star by clicking on this link: http://www.thewesternstar.com/News/Local/2013-01-09/article-3152910/Successful-search/1  There was also a nice report on the exercise on the NTV News the following day.  Have a look here to see that report: http://ntv.ca/western-health-holds-emergency-exercise/

As the new year goes forward, I’ll be trying my best to update our website with our exciting activities.  From time to time I’ll even post some interesting information of the equipment and training we have available to us.
