Equipment

A list of some of the equipment used by our team:

Command Centre

The Command Centre is a donated school bus that has been converted into a multi-purpose command centre. Some key facilities and functions of the bus include:
  • Large office with mapping tables
  • Kitchen utilities
  • Food and drink (enough supplies for 10+ people for 24-48 hours)
  • Washroom
  • Bunks
  • First Aid supplies

Hovercraft

Our hovercraft is extremely useful for tasks involving victims who have gone through the ice and is capable of carrying up to three personnel including a victim.

Snowmobiles, ATVs, Other Vehicles

Our team has access to numerous snowmobiles, ATVs, 4x4s, and other vehicles.

Rescue Trailer (donated by the Western Sno-Riders)

Our Rescue Trailer can be outfitted with skis or wheels depending on the environment, and can be towed by a snowmobile, ATV, or personal vehicle.

18' Fiberglass Boat and Trailer

Horses and Riders

Generously provided to us by Humber River Ranch (709.635.8200) are 2-3 horses and trailering to and from searches.  Several of our team members are experienced riders along with their search and rescue training.  Horses provide a surefooted, multi-purpose vehicle that is quiet (important when listening for lost people) and can go places that machines cannot traverse.

First Aid Equipment

Our team has a vast variety of first aid equipment and personnel trained to use it.  We have evacuation gear, lighting, trauma packs, a defibrillator, and a well-stocked First Aid trailer that can be pulled behind a personal vehicle or towed behind a snowmobile or ATV.

Maps, GPS Units, and Radios

Our team has Touratech capabilities and software, several GPS units, maps, marine charts, and several land/marine VHF radio units with mobile repeater.  All team members are trained in map and compass and radio operation and can serve as flankers/navigation help.
