Over the years, the Bay of Islands Search & Rescue team has fundraised for, and has had donated, a wide variety of equipment, all used to carry out our mandate. This equipment is critical in what we do.

Mobile Command Centre Trailer

New command centre trailer being towed by Rescue 2.

The command centre is a hub of activity during a call-out. The trailer is divided into multiple sections, and can serve many different purposes during a search, or other situation where it’s needed. The trailer includes a full kitchen with break area, washroom, communications/mapping room, built-in propane heating system, satellite television capability, air conditioning, and also a large room at the rear with a ramp which can be used to transport ATVs and other large pieces of gear. The rear of the trailer is also used to transport some of the equipment essential to a search, including the digital and analogue radio systems, generators, lighting, repeater/antenna, and more. The command centre was purchased by the team in 2015.

RESCUE 3 – 1985 GMC Suburban

Rescue 1

While this vehicle pre-dates the existence of several of our members, it still plays an integral role for the operation of the team. This vehicle is used to transport equipment such as the ‘mule’ stretcher, AED, first aid kits, trauma kits, and more. It is also used to haul our smaller trailers, such as our ice rescue unit, snowmobile/ATV trailer, and the Rescue Boggan. It also has plenty of seating to accommodate some of the team.
